Status Bar allows you to know what is up at any given time:

Speed, Bullets and Time:  Gather them quickly and use them to your advantage:  the bars are located in the left hand column keeping you informed of your levels:  here they are at maximum level: 

Tip for Bonus Level Rounds.

In Bonus Levels, if the Aliens are starting to get out of control and are managing to escape, try to pick up a Meteor Storm, Memory Station, Cash Bomb or Gem Bomb tile, before the counter starts to total up the score. After exiting the Meteor Storm, etc, you will find that you have been credited with a perfect bonus, even if some of the Aliens did get away!

This can come in very handy if you are going for the 24 clear consecutive rounds necessary for achieving another secret. And of course, with a x5 up you can get 50 million per clear round after the 9th clear round!

Your lives and money are something you need to keep an eye on; they will give you a hedge against loosing the game altogether.  Keeping maximum lives gives you a bonus of 1 millions everytime you collect an extra one. 

Unlocking locks within the Levels and Points groups in your account gives you access to better weapons and more money from the start of the game:

Rockets and the Secrets Counter are two more helpful parts of the status bar!

The secrets counter keeps up with how many secrets you have accumulated in one game!

This tip from Ozguy concerning the Meteor Storm: 

Here's a tip for anyone having difficulty getting through the meteor storms:
Try sitting further back from the screen during the meteor storm so you can see more of what is above you. Then rather than focusing on your ship, watch a fixed point near the top of the screen (such as the H in Hiscore) and keep your ship positioned below that point. That way when you see a meteor near the H you know well in advance that you may need to move your ship. Don't worry too much about the falling bonuses unless they are nearby. Making it through to the end has greater rewards.

The Pause button allows you to go and do what you need and return to the game:

To pause the game simply press p!
